A short guide
Private jet charter
Many people start by chartering before they buy. Here are the ways to charter, what it costs, and when it makes sense to own.
Three ways to charter
1. Single-flight charter
You pay for one flight only, point to point. Right for occasional flyers who do not want a commitment.
2. Jet card
You prepay a block of flight hours at a fixed rate with guaranteed availability. Convenient for several flights a year.
3. Fractional ownership
You buy a share of an aircraft and use it for a set number of hours a year. A middle step between charter and full ownership.
Common questions
How much does it cost to charter a private jet?
Pricing is per flight hour and rises with aircraft size. As a general estimate only: a small jet roughly $3,000 to $5,000 per hour, a large jet roughly $8,000 to $15,000 per hour. This is not a quote.
When does buying make more sense than chartering?
When you fly regularly, roughly 200 hours a year or more, ownership starts to make financial sense. Below that, chartering is usually cheaper.
